Reclaimed Redwood Mantle

Reclaimed Redwood Mantle

This custom mantle began as a 16-foot 6″ x 8″ beam of old-growth redwood, salvaged from an arbor being torn down near Petaluma, California. Sourced through Heritage Salvage, the wood carries decades of quiet strength and character. Cut to 83″ and installed with a hidden shelf bracket the mantle sits above the fireplace and beneath the TV, it anchors the room with warmth and presence.

The surface was lightly sanded to soften rough edges while preserving the original milling marks — a nod to its past — and finished with satin polyurethane for a subtle sheen. I used Shaper Origin to Inlay into the face a personal tribute: African mahogany outlines of the owner’s beloved dogs and initials, carved with care and intention. It is mounted above the fireplace via a hidden shelf bracket to provide a seamless finish.

This piece is more than functional — it’s a reclaimed memory, a beam reborn, and a quiet monument to love, place, and legacy.
